Introducing our Founder, Mike Rabinowitz

Meet Mike Rabinowitz - Giveadelphia's founder and Executive Director. Born and raised right outside of Philadelphia, Mike grew up within a community of neighbors, long-time buddies, dedicated E-A-G-L-E-S fans and family that played a major role in his inspiration to give back to this city. Moving back from Boston only a short time ago, he has dedicated much of the last year bringing Giveadelphia to life - a chance for him to give back to a city that gave so much to him.

Okay, Mike, let's get right into it. Why Giveadelphia? Where did it come from?

Giveadelphia started as a fledgling idea that was supposed to be an excuse to both get all of my friends under one roof AND to create an avenue to give back to my local community. I originally wanted to build something I could be proud of...and thankfully I was able to surround myself with like-minded individuals. I would be remiss to not mention the people who brought this together. Without everyone involved, this idea would never have materialized.

What makes Philadelphia an important place to you?

Originally from Wynnewood, I went to Lower Merion High School and University of Delaware. And although I moved to Boston after school to experience something new, I always drifted back to the idea of Philadelphia. I love the diversity, and inter-connectivity of the city. As the largest "small town," or "smallest big city," I enjoy how there's something for everyone here. It's a city that continues to grow, and really hasn't even hit its stride yet. I am excited to see how Giveadelphia can become a part of that journey.

So it's not the food?

Oh, and we have the best food scene in the country. Those that know me know I'm obsessed with Rosy's nachos. And in my most expert opinion, they're not only the best nachos in the city, but potentially the best nachos this side of Kansas. Now that you have me talking, Zavino has the best gluten free pizza in this city. So if you suffer from Celiac disease like I do, you must go check it out. If you are into music like I am, go dine at Sazon before catching a show at my favorite Philly venue, Union Transfer.

You seem to go the four corners of the city on any given day. Where can we find you on the weekend?

You're right. I love to explore the city, especially with my dog,

Percy - 10x winner of the "best looking dog in Philadelphia award" (albeit judged by me). Although Philadelphia is big compared to other cities, I really enjoy the small town vibe it has. Part of that charm is searching for new activities to do, experiencing diverse restaurants, and meeting people with backgrounds different than my own.

For better or worse, I'm also a massive Philadelphia sports fan. You can expect to find me at almost every home game tailgating in style with my family and an ever-growing group of friends.

Giveadelphia is clearly taking off. Where else do you dedicate your time?

I work at Tactix Real Estate Advisors, the best Commercial Real Estate firm in the city. One of the things I love most is that I get to say my job is essentially to make friends and help them with their real estate requirements. That in itself makes my job pretty enjoyable.

Outside of work, I love listening to music at all times. I get excited about finding live shows throughout the city (Union Transfer is my favorite venue), and I'm always searching for ways to get my butt kicked in the gym. I'm obsessed with continued personal growth and Philadelphia is an amazing environment for that to happen

Who inspires your day to day?

Is it cliché to say family and friends? In either case, it's true. I come from a family of lawyers and fitness enthusiasts (my sister embodies both of these terms)... and my girlfriend/dog mom, Sydni Arnett, is the biggest badass around (you can catch her at Everybody Fights or Barry's).

I wouldn't be where I am today without them, my Giveadelphia team, and of course, Percy.

Mike, from all of us at Giveadelphia, we thank you for trusting us with your idea. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Because of you, the community of Philly has a chance to shine a little brighter than it did yesterday.
